So you’re going to be a language assistant? | TAPIF Video Series

Salut mes amis! As some of you are getting ready to go to France for the TAPIF Program (Teaching Assistant Program in France), I’ve been uploading videos on the subject as I know how hard and stressful it can be to find info on the little details of the program. So, if you’re getting ready to be a TAPIF assistant, you can head over to our YouTube channel for the 4-part (so far) video series. Hope this is helpful to some of you and please let me know if you have any questions as you’re preparing for this great adventure! Bisous, Alexa

How to Create a Study Abroad Capsule Wardrobe

Hey friends! If you’re getting ready to study abroad, you might want to consider paring your wardrobe down so that you aren’t stuck hauling a huge suitcase to the country you’ll be studying in. I’ve created a capsule wardrobe of about 35 items for my upcoming 3 months in Paris. Take a look at it below for some inspiration on what to pack and how to narrow down your semester abroad wardrobe. Pack Like A Minimalist: 3 Months, 1 Carry-On

Hello friends! I’ll be getting ready to head back to France soon and have been trying to figure out how to pack lighter. You might recall hearing (horror) stories about dragging my ginormous suitcase, that I lovingly refer to as “Big Red,” around Europe. It’s a monstrosity and I really don’t want to travel with it again anytime soon. So, I made a promise to myself to only pack in a carry-on suitcase and backpack for my next 3 month trip/semester abroad. If you’re getting ready to study abroad or go on a long-term trip, check out how I manage to fit everything in a carry-on suitcase here:

The Post Grad Struggle + A Life Update

Hi friends! I’ve been back in the U.S. for about a month now and wanted to post a quick update on what I’ve been up to. Life this past month has consisted of coming home to Indiana, starting work and planning my return to France. I’ll be going back for the fall to work with Asbury’s Paris Semester. It’s the same study abroad program I did back in 2015 so I’m very excited to go back and help out with the program this time around. I’ve been working part time as a Content Writer for a local marketing agency and also growing my freelance business and working on YouTube content. I’m happy to be gaining great experience with the marketing side of writing. But most importantly, I’ve gotten to spend some much needed quality time with my family and my dog. You can check out my latest video below where I give my tips on how to survive post grad. Bisous, Alexa

Experiencing British Uni Life in Canterbury

Hello friends, I’ve officially entered into my last month in France and am currently enjoying the last vacances of the year. After this last two week break, I’ll have one week left of teaching at my lycée. The sadness of my impending departure and having to say goodbye to the students and teachers is already starting to set in, but I’m also buzzing with nervous excitement (read: anxiety) while figuring out what I’ll be doing next. To kick off this vacation, I headed over to visit my friend, Kristen, in England. Kristen and I met at Hillsong Paris while we were both studying abroad back in 2015. It was so nice to take my mind off of the future and job applications for a couple of days. She showed me around Canterbury and University of Kent. We had a classic British uni night out, went to tea, grabbed a chippy, hung out in a bookshop for way too long and ended the weekend by watching “Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.” Check out the vlog and photos …

Latest Travels: Paris, Copenhagen, London & Dublin

Hello friends, It’s been quite a while, but my time here in France is coming to a close very soon. With just four weeks as a teaching assistant left, I’m trying to squeeze in as much travel as possible. Back in February, Jane and Kira visited and we embarked on a #SquadEuroTrip2K17. We hit Paris, Copenhagen, London and Dublin. It was a whirlwind for sure. Check out some of my photos from the trip and watch my travel vlogs below. Bisous, Alexa

A Seasonal Playlist: Winter 2017

Photo by Barbara Defranoux Since coming to France, I have to admit I’ve been a little out of touch with the current hits playing on U.S. top 40 radio. I mean I just heard “Black Beatles” and learned what the Mannequin Challenge was around Christmas. All that to say, most of what I’ve been listening to during the autumnal and winter months are carefully curated into a Spotify playlist I’ve creatively titled “fall ’16/winter ’17.” On it, is a melange of the new Ed Sheeran tracks, some Chainsmokers, Bootstraps, Henri Salvador and random others. Currently on repeat: “Paris” by The Chainsmokers The Chainsmokers just dropped their newest single “Paris” on the 12th of January and I’m obsessed. Not only because I love the city of Paris, but it’s such a nostalgia-fueled tune and I’m a sucker for those. The lyric video defines “Paris” as “a sentimental yearning for a reality that isn’t genuine.” Essentially, in the context of the song, Paris is more of a state of mind than the actual city which is pretty clever …
