With the summer season comes opportunities for rest in our daily lives. Rest transforms us to physically, emotionally, and spiritually centered beings again. Above all, periods of rest help us to be the best versions of ourselves in the workplace, in our social groups and families, and in our communities. In practical terms, rest comes when we turn the world off for just a moment in order to reset our minds. This can be done by going without electronics for a day, spending time soaking in the presence of loved ones, or spending a day doing things just for the fun of them, not because they have some sort of work value to them. If you’re an ENFJ, you know the struggle. If you make a friend, it’s a friend for life, in your mind. You have a desire to help your friends be the best they can be and you want to be in constant relationship with them. If we’re not careful, we can apply this thinking to not just our current friendships, but to past friendships too. But the effort of constantly trying to maintain friendships with people who, if we’re being honest with ourselves, forgot about us a long time ago, we’re putting ourselves through unnecessary emotional pain. Burnout: How To Deal

As I write this, I’m mentally ticking off all of the tasks I’ve done and I’m dreading the many I have left to do. It’s all too easy to let the assignments pile up and no matter how productive you are, eventually it all gets to be a bit too much, and you burn out. I’m no stranger to this phenomenon. In fact, you might call me the Queen of Burnout. I spent last summer completing two internships, writing for three online magazines, and working two jobs. I’d start most of those summer days waking up at 5 a.m. and getting home after my second job around 1 a.m. It was exhausting. But, I’m a go-getter. I thrive off of busyness, which often causes me to overcommit. It seems to work at first, but then I get tired, burn out and wallow in my inability to do a million things and be a million places at once.
