I think it’s safe to say that everyone is pretty happy to be done with 2016. It was one of the most challenging years for the world. I mean there was Brexit, the U.S. election and a whole lot of sad news stories. 2016 was pretty challenging on a personal level too. It was a year of distinct growth and, of course, all growth comes at a cost and with a few growing pains.
But some really amazing things happened too.
I graduated from college. I turned 22. I worked my first “big girl” job doing something I really love. I was a bridesmaid in a close friend’s wedding. I moved to France for the second time. I got my first apartment. I taught high school students. I traveled a lot. I reconnected with old friends and made new ones. And I ate a lot of baguettes.
So 2016, while you were hard, I’m so glad for the experiences you brought me.
And I can’t wait to see what this next year brings. Here’s to 2017.
I’ve heard quite a bit about picking a theme word for the year, so I’ve decided to jump on that bandwagon and pick a word for 2017.
Love. There was so much hate and violence in 2016, so this year I just want to focus on all of the love in my own life. I want to start a career that I love. I want to learn how to love where I am and to spend my energy loving my family and friends well. Hopefully in doing this, in creating a personal space that radiates love and kindness, the hate and violence will begin to fade away, even if just a little bit.
