What Every Minimalist Should Have In Her Bag

Minimalism was probably one of the hottest trends of 2015 and thankfully, it looks like it’s here to stay. The “less is more” philosophy of minimalism is something that we can all apply to the different areas of our lives, including our handbags. We all have that friend who can’t seem to go out without a million and one things stuffed into her purse. And if you can’t think of anyone, you are that friend. But, it’s never too late to dive into the depths of minimalism. It’s time to simplify your baggage. These are the five all-natural items you actually can’t leave the house without. I promise, I’ll make a minimalist out of you.

An Essential Oil

Essential oils are essentially little bottles of magic. I won’t go into the many benefits of using essential oils here, but you should definitely keep a bottle or two of your favorite one on hand. My recommendation? Peppermint or Bergamot. Ditch the Advil and carry a bottle of Peppermint in your bag for on the spot headache treatment. Apply a drop to the temples or wrists and inhale for instant relief. Peppermint is also great for when you need an extra dose of concentration. Have a big exam in your next class and can’t seem to focus on studying? Peppermint’s got you covered. If you struggle with self-confidence, anxiety or mood swings, toss a bottle of Bergamot in your bag. Apply to the upper abdomen for a confidence boost before a presentation or when your day is just a rough one. Bergamot also works as a fast acting acne spot treatment. This one smells so good, you can even wear it as a perfume.

A Roll-on Perfume

We’ve all done it at least once. You leave the dorm and realize you forgot to put on deodorant or that you haven’t showered in the past 24 hours….oops. Or maybe that’s just me. This is where roll-on perfume can really save the day. This all-natural roll-on from Ambre Blends is the perfect size to not take up too much space in your purse. And because Ambre Blends products are created from all natural oils and don’t contain alcohol like most perfumes, you really only need one application to last an entire day. An essential for when you’re having one of those days.

A Cocoa Butter Stick

This stuff smells like chocolate, but that’s not the only great thing about it. Cocoa butter has so many super-moisturizing properties. I love to throw it in my bag or backpack in the morning and use it, throughout the day, as a lip balm and emergency hand moisturizer in the winter. It has so many uses and, as a self-proclaimed minimalist, that’s why I love it.

Some Mints or Floss

For those of us with permanent retainers, floss is a handbag necessity, especially if you’re going out to eat. Not a flosser, but still want fresh breath? Throw a pack of Altoids in your bag. If given the choice, choose mints over gum. Every time. That way you won’t have to worry about the endless amount of gum wrappers you’ll find in your bag later. The less clutter and trash in your bag, the better.

A No-Spill Water Bottle

We all need water. No one is an exception to this one. But, it’s hard to find the perfectly sized bottle to fit in your bag. Here’s an expert tip. Look in the kid’s section of Target for a small, no-spill solution. Yes, you might end up looking like an overgrown toddler with a sippy cup but you’ll be rejoicing when your backpack isn’t flooded. You can thank me later.
